HSA-Exam Information
What is the HSA? The HSA-Algebra/Data Analysis is a 3-hour exam that tests students’ ability to analyze and solve problems that are based on the Algebra 1 curriculum. Who is required to take the HSA? All Maryland State Public students are required to pass the HSA if they are graduating in 2009 or after. All students are given the opportunity to take the exam at the end of their Algebra 1 course. Regardless of the grade they receive in Algebra 1, they are still required to pass the HSA. If they do not pass the HSA at the end of their Algebra 1 course, they are given additional opportunities at their school to retake the test. How is the HSA structured? The HSA is 3 hours long and is divided into two 1.5 hour sessions. The test is made up of approximately 38 questions. The questions fall into one of the following question types: multiple choice, grid-in response, BCR – brief constructed response and ECR – extended constructed response.
